I recently discovered that Trent Reznor is a liar. In 2005, he had Jeordie White appear in the video for The Hand that Feeds. While White played Bass for NIN on their subsequent promotional tour, he did not collaborate in any way with the recorded material on the With Teeth album. Trent Reznor and video director Rob Sheridan have deliberately misled all of us by showing Jeordie White playing bass to the track while the bass on the track itself was not in fact performed by him. Therefore, I conclude that Reznor is a liar and same goes for the rest of his no-good lying band. I encourage all of you to boycott this band as well as the following other bands and artists for similar reasons:
Marilyn Manson - In the video for the 1994 single "Dope Hat" you can clearly see invisible drums being played by drummer Ginger Fish. However, Fish did not join the band until after the song was recorded with previous drummer Sara Lee Lucas.
Michael Jackson - Macaulay Culkin did not genuinely perform his rap solo in Jackson's 1991 hit "Black or White"
Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The song "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" is not performed by Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band but rather by The Beatles. I don't know which band to be madder at in this case. |

| I miss LiveJournal |
[Feb. 26th, 2008|10:13 am] |
It's true! After spending about 8 months only using Facebook, the suckitude of Facebook makes me long for the days of LiveJournal more and more each day.
Durham Region has approved a new garbage incineration site for Clarington. This is a bad thing for the environment. Very little energy is actually "reclaimed" by garbage incinerators. It may reduce or eliminate the amount of waste we end up having to send out to landfills in Michigan, but if we could just recycle more then there wouldn't be nearly as much of a problem anyway. Besides that, a lot of the stuff that burns really well, like paper, is actually recyclable!
Moreover, the investigation into the safety of the proposed site was flawed and no one has looked closely at the long-term health problems it will cause for residents of the area. The regional counsel approved it simply to pander to corporate interests. Now, the people of Durham are set to pay millions of dollars to breathe more smoke!
Kind of a downer, I know. The provincial government still needs to approve it, so we can always hope that they won't, but I suspect they will. |

Back when I was a young lad, Garfield and Friends was one of my favourite shows and I would watch it every Saturday morning. This episode completely blew me away when I was a kid. I'd never seen anything like it. Then ten years later, Drew Carey completely ripped off the idea. I told all my friends and none of them believed me. Anyway, I found the episode and now I can prove it.
In other news, there is no other news. Nothing is happening in my life and I don't even know if I live in a world where LiveJournal is relevant anymore. But in any case, I'll at least keep reading other people's entries because they still post some entertaining stuffnit at times. |

[Jun. 6th, 2007|09:32 am] |
Hey gang,
The NBA finals should be something to watch even though none of my favourite teams are in it. No one thought the Cavs would beat the Pistons. Can they beat the Spurs?? Probably not. But it's still going to be a hell of a series - rough and dirty with no love lost.
Also, if you've ever wondered how Steve Nash does it, watch this NBA commercial with David Blaine. |

Hey guys. I have a lot to blog about since I haven't blogged in a while.
My big trip to Toronto went well. In fact, it went better than perfect!! Not only did I get to be part of the labour movement and get a hotel downtown but I also got to drink beers beers beers with my friend Luke at Smokeless Joe's. Then I got up in the morning to free coffee at the hotel, voted on some motions and amendments at the AGM and then went to a Raptors game. I saw the Raptors in their first playoff game in 5 years. And they lost :( big time sad face experience, that.
Anyway, I'm both disappointed and proud of the Raptors. They had a great season, which will certainly be one of the highlights of my gloomy year. The NBA isn't over yet but now I'm cheering primarily for Nash and the Suns.
In baseball, the Jays are fucked.
The only major political news I'm interested in right now is the proposed electoral reform for Ontario. If you haven't heard, the Citizen's Assembly on Electoral Reform has recommended a "mixed member proportional" system. The referendum will take place simultaneously with the next provincial election this fall and if the "yes" side wins then the next provincial election will follow the new format. I intend to vote YES because I think the new system is an improvement, even though I've always been a fan of the "single tranferrable vote" system they use in other countries. |

| Big Trip to Sunny Toronto |
[Apr. 19th, 2007|03:21 pm] |
Wow!!!!!! All-expense-paid trip to Toronto!!!!!!!!!!
I'm going there tomorrow for the big OPSEU convention (part of which is to elect a new president for all of OPSEU) and I get my own hotel room with two beds and all that jazz. It's gonna be exciting to the max!!! The big drawback is that the Raptors first playoff game is Saturday afternoon and I'll miss it because of the conference :( Oh well. At least I'll be able to tell people I was just a few blocks away when the Raptors trounced Vince Bastard and No Good Nets. |

Today is Stephen Colbert Day here in Oshawa. It should be a fun time. I may go over to the GM Centre and see what's going on. Colbert's not going to be there but he'll probably mention the big event on his show and may send a field reporter to film some of it for a later show. Don Cherry, on the other hand, is going to be there for some reason. This is the first time Don has made an appearance in Oshawa since he inexplicably conducted the Oshawa Durham Symphony Orchestra last year as a guest conductor.
On an unrelated note, here is a link to my favourite Animaniacs sketch featuring Ben Stein:

Hooray for basketball!
I'm thinking of spending a couple weeks' pay to see the Raptors courtside. It would be the experience of a lifetime. I'd be close enough to taste Jose Calderon's sweat.

| Xbox three-motherfuckin-sixty |
[Nov. 30th, 2006|10:10 am] |
So I just got this new Xbox 360. It's pretty cool. It was free because Rafal and I won it in a contest for making this video right here. One problem with the 360 though is that it is by Microsoft so nothing from my old Xbox will work with it. The thing only came with one controller so Raf and I have to buy more. He already spent $60 on a new one, which is how much they cost! I guess there hasn't been time for 3rd part companies to make their own controllers so Microsoft can still charge whatever they want.
One good thing about it is that it can play DVDs without having to buy a special remote control. We can also rip CDs to it and listen to cool music like Rammstein and KMFDM while playing basketball, as opposed to having to listen to the game's own crappy hiphop soundtrack.
As for the old Xbox, I'm gonna give Rafal the option of taking it and keeping it in his house since he worked on the video with me and 360 is at my house. It's complicated. If he doesn't want it then I'll probably just sell my old Xbox in order to raise funds to buy more controllers and games for the 360 for when people come over and shit. |

| Industrial Rap |
[Nov. 16th, 2006|01:11 pm] |
Yeah, so if you haven't seen this video for Skinny Puppy's song Pro-Test then you should. It's actually been around for a while but I only discovered it a few weeks ago. I don't know many goths who can break dance but maybe that'll change. They could definitely use the exercise!
Also, last week I got to see sex legend Ron Jeremy speak at UOIT, debating against a Christian anti-porn guy. The Christian guy actually appeared pretty intelligent and made some good points. He's obviously done his research on the subject - he knows the vocabulary and everything - and he was very comfortable discussing it. Must religious nutbars are extremely ignorant to the topics they discuss, such as evolution, so this guy was refreshing in a way. And while it may be a bit hypocritical for someone who is against pornography altogether to have seen so much of it, the alternative is far more hypocritical.
Ron Jeremy was entertaining of course. He made a lot of great points too in favour of porn. However, despite his intellectual demeanor, it's hard to listen to him speak without thinking "this guy can suck his own dick!"

| Transit Shmansit |
[Oct. 6th, 2006|09:30 am] |
October 6, 2006 marks the first day I've driven myself to work since ever. Normally I would either get a ride from a bus driver or from my dad if he was going out shopping in the morning, but today there is a Durham Region Transit strike and my dad can't drive due to having laser eye surgery yesterday. Of course, the silver lining is that if my dad can't drive then I can use the car as much as I want.
So now the shoe is on the other foot right? For three years I've bragged to my coworkers about not driving and not having to deal with the crap that comes with it like finding a parking space, increase parking fees, gas prices, speeding tickets and cars hitting other cars, etc. Now I'm just a regular driving schmuck. This is Karma - payback for my years of transportational affluence.
Hopefully the strike won't last long but it will probably go at least a week since strikes usually do. |

| Back on the air!! |
[Sep. 29th, 2006|05:29 pm] |
So my radio show is back on now. I like doing it because it gives me a chance to relax after a hard work week and just sit in the booth with my classical music. It also gives me a chance to make journal posts as it turns out.
You'll be happy to know the chinchillas are gone. It's a big relief. I didn't really hate them; I just hated having them in my house. Emily didn't believe me when I said one of them spat on me but she has recently admitted to being spat on many times since reclaiming possession of them, so it wasn't just my imagination.
Tomorrow I have to go to Toronto to a general meeting for the Toronto FC fan club. I don't know a thing about soccer or how to be an organized, hardcore fan of anything so this is going to be hard. Luckily, it's at a bar I like so I'll be able to drink and eat and just say "Word" every time Craig says something.
Liberal leadership race is happening. I don't mind saying that my man for this race is Scott Brison!! Call me crazy but I think a gay Prime Minister would do wonders for Canada-U.S. relations. After he loses, however, I can keep on not supporting the Liberals. It'll probably be NDP again as they are the only alternative to the insane militarism of Harper and Ignatieff.
Michael Ignatieff is, quite frankly, an enigma. I don't know how anyone that smart can be so stupid. The reasons he gave for supporting the war in Iraq can be summed up as "the end justifies the means". Who the hell actually thinks that the end justifies the means? Usually people use that expression to argue against doing something, not the other way around! But then maybe I am oversimplifying things a tad. The point is that the guys is a wise, experienced, super-educated buffoon.
This post got really political really fast so I'm going to stop here. |

| I hate chinchillas |
[Sep. 19th, 2006|04:17 pm] |
This is usually not an issue in my every day life, but right now I have two chinchillas in my house.
I can't complain too much (but I will anyway) because they're fairly easy to take care of. I basically just feed them and make sure they have fresh sand to bathe in. On the other hand, they're not much fun. I thought the chinchillas would be like guinea pigs and I've had guinea pigs before and they are very good pets. Chinchillas are not like guinea pigs. Allow me to illustrate:
Guinea pigs are fairly slow. I don't mean intellectually (see below). However, they are among the least agile rodents in the world. They can run fast if they are startled but they don't jump or leap around or climb things. This makes them easy to catch and handle. Chinchillas on the other hand are EXTREMELY agile and I can't even pick them up. When I reach into their cage they leap over hands and come right at me. It's freaky. I can't even get them by throwing a towel over them.
Guinea pigs are very smart. They are easy to talk to. They answer to their name (or whistling noises). They also usually go back in their cage voluntary after you let them out to explore, provided you put some food in their cage. They startle easily but don't stay scared for long. Chilchillas are just stupid as hell. They're not responsive at all and when I try to talk to them they get scared and run around in circles.
You always know what's on a guinea pig's mind. When they want something, you'll know it. They're extremely vocal. If they're hungry they squeal at you. If they want attention then they make pathetic "boop boop" noises. But most of the time they just want food. Inveresly, you never know what the fuck a chinchilla is thinking. I keep thinking that they're planning to kill me. One of them spat on my yesterday. What a bastard. I know it's angry but what does it want? Food? Sand?? I don't know.
Guinea pigs are supercool. Chinchillas suck.
Guinea pigs are perfect. Chinchillas most definitely are not.

| Internets |
[Aug. 10th, 2006|08:55 am] |
"Ten movies streaming across that, internet, and what happens to your own personal internet? I just the other day got, an internet was sent by my staff at 10 o'clock in the morning on Friday and I just got it yesterday. Why?"
Man, I'm a computer engineering graduate and I don't understand what this guy is talking about. I've never seen such liberal use of the word "internet". When he talks about his "own personal internet" I guess he means his home or office network, but I don't know why it would be effected by streaming movies unless one of his staff is doing it. He could use a firewall to make sure no unwanted movies are coming through his routers.
And when he says "an internet was sent by my staff..." I just have no idea what he means. Is "internet" now a valid short-form for IP packet?
I feel pretty stupid right now. This is a quote from a really important speech and so I need help understanding it please. |

I know that Tool is a band that I shouldn't like because all the members of the band are assholes but what am I supposed to do. I've just been listening to the song "Rosetta Stoned" over and over and I'm never heard anything like it. It's incredible. The poor guy in that song has been put through a lot. I don't know how I would react in a situation like that.
"Overwhelmed as one would be placed in my position Such a heavy burden now to be the one Born to bear and read to all the details of our ending To write it down for all the world to see But I forgot my pen Shit the bed again Typical"
Anyway, I don't like that this band is on the bad side of the whole music downloading issue. Most of the artists who are like that also suck because they're crappy mainstream bands with material success so it sucks that this band is good.
Luckily, System of a Down is on the good side. Shavo Odadjian is quoted as saying: "I don’t care if fans download our songs from the internet but I don’t like it when fans get our songs before the release date". I can live with that, I think. I can see why it would be annoying to have fans rip off works in progress that were never meant to be released in that form.
I got to see System at Ozzfest. Here is a picture that I didn't take.

That guy can wail. |

I don't much feel like making a post this week. I have a lot of work ahead of me for the next week or two. I feel nervous for some reason. I have another job interview coming up but I don't think that's what I'm nervous about. I think I'm more nervous about the course I'm teaching and how fucked up everything seems to be. I'll have to pull myself up by my ponytail to get out of this pit of quicksand I'm. (Please note that doing that doesn't actually work in actual real life quicksand. I think the only way to get out of real quicksand is to very carefully start wiggling your feet with very small movements, moving yourself up slowly. Or have somebody dig you out. That might work too.) |
