Trent Reznor is a liar!!! [Jun. 27th, 2008|03:53 pm]

[mood |angryangry]
[music |Not Nine Inch Nails!]

I recently discovered that Trent Reznor is a liar. In 2005, he had Jeordie White appear in the video for The Hand that Feeds. While White played Bass for NIN on their subsequent promotional tour, he did not collaborate in any way with the recorded material on the With Teeth album. Trent Reznor and video director Rob Sheridan have deliberately misled all of us by showing Jeordie White playing bass to the track while the bass on the track itself was not in fact performed by him. Therefore, I conclude that Reznor is a liar and same goes for the rest of his no-good lying band. I encourage all of you to boycott this band as well as the following other bands and artists for similar reasons:

Marilyn Manson - In the video for the 1994 single "Dope Hat" you can clearly see invisible drums being played by drummer Ginger Fish. However, Fish did not join the band until after the song was recorded with previous drummer Sara Lee Lucas.

Michael Jackson - Macaulay Culkin did not genuinely perform his rap solo in Jackson's 1991 hit "Black or White"

Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The song "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" is not performed by Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band but rather by The Beatles. I don't know which band to be madder at in this case.

Industrial Rap [Nov. 16th, 2006|01:11 pm]

[mood |cheerfulcheerful]

Yeah, so if you haven't seen this video for Skinny Puppy's song Pro-Test then you should. It's actually been around for a while but I only discovered it a few weeks ago. I don't know many goths who can break dance but maybe that'll change. They could definitely use the exercise!

Also, last week I got to see sex legend Ron Jeremy speak at UOIT, debating against a Christian anti-porn guy. The Christian guy actually appeared pretty intelligent and made some good points. He's obviously done his research on the subject - he knows the vocabulary and everything - and he was very comfortable discussing it. Must religious nutbars are extremely ignorant to the topics they discuss, such as evolution, so this guy was refreshing in a way. And while it may be a bit hypocritical for someone who is against pornography altogether to have seen so much of it, the alternative is far more hypocritical.

Ron Jeremy was entertaining of course. He made a lot of great points too in favour of porn. However, despite his intellectual demeanor, it's hard to listen to him speak without thinking "this guy can suck his own dick!"

[music |Tool - Rosetta Stoned]

I know that Tool is a band that I shouldn't like because all the members of the band are assholes but what am I supposed to do. I've just been listening to the song "Rosetta Stoned" over and over and I'm never heard anything like it. It's incredible. The poor guy in that song has been put through a lot. I don't know how I would react in a situation like that.

"Overwhelmed as one would be placed in my position
Such a heavy burden now to be the one
Born to bear and read to all the details of our ending
To write it down for all the world to see
But I forgot my pen
Shit the bed again
Typical"

Anyway, I don't like that this band is on the bad side of the whole music downloading issue. Most of the artists who are like that also suck because they're crappy mainstream bands with material success so it sucks that this band is good.

Luckily, System of a Down is on the good side. Shavo Odadjian is quoted as saying: "I don’t care if fans download our songs from the internet but I don’t like it when fans get our songs before the release date". I can live with that, I think. I can see why it would be annoying to have fans rip off works in progress that were never meant to be released in that form.

I got to see System at Ozzfest. Here is a picture that I didn't take.

That guy can wail.

Tout est petit dans notre vie [Jan. 31st, 2006|10:41 am]

So on the weekend we went to Craig's. Rafal and I bought an extra controller for Craig's Xbox for 3-way gaming action. I also bought NBA Live 2005, which is an awesome game. It's really a lot like real basketball which makes it very challenging since none of us really knows the strategie of basketball all that well, aside from getting close and putting the ball in the basket. Craig's NHL 2005 is a lot simpler and in some ways more fun because you get to bash people up and steal the puck from them. However, basketball really brings out the often-neglected joy of fundamentals and besides, it's not fun to play the same sport all the time.

In World Baseball Classic news, it seems that the main contenders will be USA, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Most of the Japan's players aren't in the majors bu are probably still really good. Ichiro is still on Team Japan but most of the other major-leaguers have dropped out. It seems that the inherent loyalty of the Japanese people has backfired on them, since both Hideki Matsui and Tadahito Iguchi have dropped out siting that their primary duty is to their Major League teams and they don't want to jeopardize their performance in any way by risking injury etc in a tournament.

I didn't realize, but KMFDM's song Mini Mini Mini on their new album is a cover of French folk musician Jacque Dutronc.

Update on Teaching [Jan. 13th, 2006|10:40 am]

[mood |calmCool]
[music |Ravi Shankar - Concerto for Sitar and Orchestra]

It's looking good. I'll be teaching in the evenings so it won't have to get in the way of my day job in the learning centre. It starts January 26, which at least gives me a little time to prepare but not much. I'm already fairly familiar with the course for having tutored it off and on for the past 3 fall terms. It'll be Thursday night from 6:10 to 9:10, so I can just not go home after I finish job #1, grab some supper and go to class. That's what I would do if I was taking a class.

It'll certainly be a learning experience for me and hopefully for my students as well. I'm excited and a bit nervous.

Also, my other other job as a voluteer DJ starts up again tonight. I'll be playing Rachmaninov's 2nd Piano Concerto as well as some music by Anton Webern, Ravi Shankar and whatever else I decide to throw into the mix.

Listen live at www.thefreq.ca.

If you don't want to have to download Realplayer to listen to it (I wouldn't) then download Real Alternative and it will work.

SAD!! [Jan. 5th, 2006|12:41 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]

I think I'm suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder combined with just being depressed about having to go back to work. Also, my allergies are bugging the hell out of me lately. I took a sick day yesterday (mainly because I wasn't sleeping well and didn't wake until it was a bit too late to be able to get to work on time) but now I'm feeling more or less alright.

System of a Down has a video for the song Question. I never liked their videos very much but this one is supracool. And it was directed by the bass player, Shavo Odadjian, based on a dream he had. Wow!

We're still three weeks away from the election and tensions are already heating up. I really don't think there's any telling how things are going to go. If you want an idea of what the results will be on January 23rd then I suggest asking the Amazing Kreskin. Don't trust in polls and statistics - they just don't have a robust enough model for human behaviour.

[music |Portishead - Dummy]

Woohoy! I hope everyone had a merryish Christmas. I got some clothes, some chopsticks and the complete works of Anton Webern!!! I didn't get up until about 11am mainly because my father had to work the morning so there was no point. We watched the Queen's address and it was inspiring as always. As always, my friend Tayyab called to wish me a merry Christmas. Even though he is a muslim, he's the only friend who consistently calls me every Christmas.

Yesterday I got to see some of my cousins who I haven't seen in a good 3 years. I'm in a small WASP family and I don't have many cousins (only two first cousins and they have 4 children between them) so it's good to see how they're doing. And they're doing good. One of them got an iPod Nano for Christmas so I put some of my music on it. Can you believe she's never heard of Nirvana?? Insane!

Today I'm just takin'er easy. It's back to work on Monday so I have to enjoy this holiday the best I can.

In other the Jays just got Troy Glaus. I don't know if they can make the playoffs but it will be interesting.

We Attack!! [Dec. 21st, 2005|11:00 am]

[music |SoaD - Attack]

So I've been listening to this new System album and oh man it is good. Like all of their albums, it has really good continuity and all the songs flow together well. The title song is awesome as a single, and Vicinity of Obscenity is pure crazy genius. And then when Soldier Side came on and I heard the music from the intro to the Mezmerize album I got all emotional. If I was a girl I might have cried.

The Raptors really really lost bad on Sunday, but I still had fun. Iverson was fun to watch, running all over the court. And you really have to see Rafael Araujo in person to see how bad he really is. I always thought the sports guys from The Star were being hard on him, but it turns out they really weren't. At the very end, Araujo and another guy had a 2 on 1 fastbreak. I did catch who the other guy on the break was but served the ball up to Rafael perfectly and he still missed the layup. Awful. It didn't matter since they were down by like 25 points but it was still pathetic.

Last night I drank some bad eggnog and now I'm kind of sick. Hopefully some Scheppes ginger ale will help.

Today is Joseph Stalin's birthday.

Good pitching always beats good hitting!! [Oct. 6th, 2005|09:20 pm]

[mood |draineddrained]
[music |KMFDM - Every Day's a Good Day]

It's just something people say that has no meaning. Like "you can't fight city hall" or "help make cancer history". Yet it seems to be true. Boston and New York have some great hitters, but their pitching is shit especially their bullpens. So they're getting killed now by teams with great pitching. Especially Boston. They suck. David Wells sucks.

I'm cheering for St. Louis this year because they have Larry Walker and this might be his last season, though he did say he would play for Canada in the Baseball World Cup :)

I saw KMFDM on Tuesday and this time I got to meet Sascha. How do you talk to the greatest musical genius of our time?? It was tough. He's a nice guy though despite the type of music he plays.

The opening band was called Porcelain Somethingorother from Hamilton and they were good. The other opening band was Birthday Massacre and I liked them only I couldn't wait for them to stop playing so I could hear KMFDM for God's sake!! One opening act is enough, I say! Plus Birthday Massacre played their music just a little too loud for how high pitched it is at times. OUCH.

Anyhoo, tonight I got some free Polish food at the staff appreciation night. Somebody stole my seat at the table with my coworkers so I had to find a seat somewhere else but luckily they let me in at one of the School of Technology tables. Those guys are alright. From now on though, when I want to claim a seat for myself I'm just take the chair and carry it around with me when I'm mingling. In fact, I'll handcuff to myself just to be extra sure.

[music |KMFDM - Glory]

I have a cold so I didn't go anywhere or do anything today. I have been spending some time on MSN/ICQ which is good because I haven't been on very often for the past few years.

I also spent some time ripping my CD colleciton to MP3. Eventually, I will have to buy a DVD burner so I can save all of this stuff and not have to rip it all all over again.

My radio show is starting again on Friday. I should really have bought more music over the summer. I need to get to Toronto one of these weekends and go to one of the gigantic music stores there to get rare classical music. There's some online too that I should buy. I want to play more of the unusual classical music that you don't hear all the time. I really hate the Classical 96 station that plays the same crap all the time. Still, I don't mind mixing in the more well known stuff so I should also buy some Beethoven and Mozart and stuff like that. I'm undecided on whether I should play any Baroque music.....

Beer is ok when you have a cold. Cider goes down easier though.

[music |Wesley Willis - Nirvana]

Well, this was a draining yet fairly good weekend. On Saturday I helped cashcleaner move. I drove the cargo van too, which is the first time I've driven anything bigger than a car! It was kinda fun actually. Makes you feel powerful knowing that other people are going to have to avoid you if they don't want to get hurt. I think I might like being a van guy.

Saturday night I went to the Dungeon for the KMFDM CD release party. That was a good time too. Shit! That reminds me I still have to buy the actual CD especially since I didn't win a free one at the party. I bought my ticket to the KMFDM concert two weeks from now. It's on a Tuesday, which kinda sucks but it's still worth it. I'll just be tired at work but I'm always tired at work.

An article in the Star made me want to write a journal entry all about the debate on streamlining in education, but I don't even know what my opinion is on it. It's just too damn complicated. A more personalized education would definitely be more effective, but if it means putting a kid in a separate class then that kid will likely feel alienated. Parents seem to be generally seem to be in favour of streamlining except in the case when they have a gifted child. We can all agree that what's best for the child is what's most important but without solid statistical evidence (which doesn't include anecdotal evidence) we just can't know. The article I read was about setting up a school for black children only, which is a different kind of specialization than you would usually see but it all boils down to the same argument if you ask me.

Well I went to Toronto today to assist in breaking a world record, ie most saxophones playing the same song at the same time. It was tons of fun, even though I showed up too late to get a free t-shirt. We played the theme to Hockey Night in Canada, and we might be featured on the show tomorrow during game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals. I just saw us on the CTV news, actually, a few minutes ago. It's the talk of the town!! Anyways, after we broke the record we played a full minute of free jazz, which was incrediawesome then I got to the Shuffle Demons play a little concert. They're a pretty hep jazz band, oh yeah.

I discovered that on the KMFDM website they now have KMFDM Radio up and running, constantly streaming out ultra-heavy beats by KMFDM and their many affiliates (including Slickidiot!). I'm hearing a lot of stuff I've never heard before - it's an amazing mix. I'll be listening to this at work a lot this summer.

[music |SoaD - Roulette]

Well the last few days were ok. Yesterday was the last day of a three-day PD blitz that included sessions on Pilates, Feng Shui, Yoga and some other more useful subjects. I used Microsoft Publisher for the first time and learned a bit about how to make websites more accessible to people with disabilities. I also attended a good workshop on how to engage firstyear college students in their own education. I tell you, college students are WAY different from university students, so this wasn't a trivial session. The Feng Shui session was the only bad one. Some of it was useful, but I tell you, if they just cut out all the bullshit from that session, they could have easily made it 1 hour instead of 2. For example they spent all this time talking about Kirlian Photography, but failed to mention that it was exposed as quackery 6 decades ago. The only good thing about that it revitalized my interest in giving a session on Phrenology for the college. I wonder how many people would actually buy it...

Yeah that's my week. The weekend, on the other hand, sucked. Matt totally ruined our jam session, but then again, it was still our most successful jam session to date ;) I might add that I'm the only person around here who knows when it's a good time to leave......

[music |Some hip-hop noise coming from the computer lab]

Earlier I was listening to that System of a Down album again and thinking about what an amazing mixing job it was. The whole album seems to flow up and down perfectly like a Beethoven symphony. And it does this without having any one song that really stands out as a great single. It made me think about an article I read in The Star on Monday about how the album is going the way of the dodo with download sites springing up everywhere. Most of these sites sell music by the song (usually $0.99 per song), which is good for times when you only want the one or two good songs from an album that is mostly filler. It's still a shame though, since there a lot of great albums out there with songs that are good but not poppy enough to be on radio or TV. Pretty soon, these songs will be worthless to the musicians and their labels and all we'll have left is the mainstream bullshit. And I thought the Internet was supposed to ENCOURAGE diversity. Ha.

Tomorrow I'm planning to see Nanochrist play in some kind of weird outdoor concert at the Edge 102 studio in Toronto. It's pretty odd, I think, for an industrial metal band to do an outdoor concert. I've never actually seen Nanochrist play so I'm really hoping to make it there. Really, it only depends on how lazy I feel tomorrow. Other than that, there's no reason I wouldn't go.

[music |SOAD - Mr. Jack]

I'm listening to this System of a Down - Steal This Album and I have to say that it's awesome. Maybe not as good at Toxicity but then that's a really tough album to follow. I've even learned to sort of like the song Boom!, which I've made fun of a lot in the past. It works really well in the context of the album, but maybe wasn't so good as a single. It's like having Prison Song as a single. Maybe it would have worked better if they could have had another video and single from the album to go along with Boom! like Innversion or maybe Ego Brain. Something lighter to contrast the explosion of Boom!

[music |Santa Esmeralda - Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood]

I drove my bike to the mall today and bought a few CD's. I bought the Soundtrack to Kill Bill, Steal This Album by System of a Down and the newest album by Dar Williams (which was kind of expensive but oh well, she probably needs the money more than those other guys). So yeah I'm listening to the Kill Bill music which is awesome. I can't wait to see the next edition of Kill Bill.

I don't know what's gonna go on tonight. I did my drinking last night just in case nothing happens tonight. I feel like calling Mike but I know that no good will come from it. I might as well just leave him alone to do what he wants to do.

Oh, grains are the foundation
So please take my advice
Have 5 to 11 servings of bread, cereal or rice
3 to 5 of vegetables and 4 of fruits fruits is best
Their anti-oxidants and fibers help you to digest
3 servings of yogurt, milk and cheese
Will help your bones subsidize the cattle industries
A body needs to grow
And growing takes proteins
Thats why meat can be a tasty treat like fish or human beings
And when you eat your sweets
Be sure you try
To limit your servings
Or you’ll DIE!

Everybody!
My body is a pyramid that’s made of healthy food
So do what we say
(yeah!)
Eat right everyday
(boo!)
I love you
